Dong Mafai has a rich local history of farming and wild food foraging. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy local dishes from these practices, such as bamboo and mushroom soup, cooked frog, grilled fish, and locally grown rice at every meal!

Hosts will provide breakfast and dinner upon request for their guests. Alert your homestay to any allergies or dietary restrictions when making your booking.

Guests will experience a community defined by appreciation and relationship to the natural world. There are countless nature-based activities that vary throughout the seasons, such as hiking, foraging, stargazing, fishing, mat weaving with native grass, etc.

Mae Kwan

A community leader, Mae Kwan started the protest camp that eventually closed down the Dong Mafai mine. With a deep connection to the land, she enjoys foraging for food and tending to her rice paddy.

Mae Rum

When it’s time to show up to resist the mines, Mae Rum is the one to get everyone going. Her favorite spot in Dong Mafai is her rice field and she wants to share that place with visitors along with her knowledge of nature.

Mae Aedt

Mae Aedt brings food picked straight from her garden to you. She has a warm personality and loves to dance. Always having a variety of delicious fruits, she will make whatever local dish you want to try!

Mae Jum Pa

Mae Jum Pa says of all the places she's been, Dong Mafai is the prettiest. She is skilled in making embroidery, mats, and brooms. She also likes to dance and volunteer at temple events.

Pa Kuan

Pa Kuan is a farmer and leader of Dong Mafai’s mining resistance who specializes in navigating the local courts. He likes watching Muay Thai and telling stories about the land.

Mae Tia

Mae Tia is a rice farmer who lives with two daughters, a granddaughter, a dog and four cats. For animal lovers, this is the perfect place for you!

Pa Mon & Mae Sumran

Pa Mon and Mae Sumran have lived in Dong Mafai for over 50 years. Their house is on a hill surrounded by rice paddies, perfect for campfires and stargazing.
